Brian has been a member of ISTJA for thirty years, and president in 1990s. Contributed to Technology Ireland, New Scientist, Sunday Tribune, Sunday Business Post, RTÉ Radio1 programmes, Irish Farmers’ Monthly, among others.
Dublin City University lecturer from 1992, founded and chaired Masters in Science Communication from 1996, retired 2010. Has given workshops and talks on science journalism, science communication and related topics in over twenty countries.
Co-editor with M. Bucchi of Routledge Handbook of Public Communication of Science and Technology (2008 & 2014), and of Public Communication of Science – anthology in four volumes (2016); also with P. Murphy and D. Fahy of Little Country, Big Talk – science communication in Ireland (2017).
Active in international PCST (Public Communication of Science and Technology) network since 1998; president since 2014. Committee member, Mary Mulvihill Association.
Currently a member of the ISTJA Executive Committee.
