Maria is the editor of Noteworthy, an award-winning crowdfunded investigative platform from Journal Media. As an investigative journalist, she specialises in science, social justice and health.
Previously, her writing has appeared in The Sunday Times, Business Post, The Irish Times and more. She has radio experience with RTÉ Radio 1 and Newstalk.
Investigations have been recognised by the Irish Red Cross Humanitarian Awards, Mary Raftery Prize, UCD Smurfit School Business Journalism Awards, Headline Mental Health Journalism Awards, Justice Media Awards and Association of British Science Writers (ABSW) Awards.
Maria is a passionate science communicator, and was co-curator of the best-selling book A Neutron Walks into a Bar.
Graduating from the Smurfit Institute of Genetics, Trinity College Dublin, she then worked for Abbott Laboratories for a number of years. Following the success of her science blog, ScienceCalling.com, she made the move into journalism when she was awarded a scholarship to complete an MA in Journalism in Dublin City University.
