Dr Olive Heffernan is an ISTJA member, science journalist and author who has spent the past 20 years writing about oceans and climate change. Her first book, The High Seas: Dispatches from the Unclaimed Ocean, is forthcoming in Spring 2024 for Profile Books UK and Greystone in North America.

Seán Duke is the president of the ISTJA and a science journalist. After starting out as a science teacher, he became a regular contributor to The Irish Times, Irish Independent and national radio. In 2013, he wrote the popular science book How Irish Scientists Changed the World. He is currently working on a novel.
